Gold is referring to the 100 Friends Project that he founded and of which he is director. It is an organisation that aims to provide direct assistance to some of the world’s most needy people by means of philanthropic travel.

It’s pretty much a one-man operation, and Gold travels light with just a laptop, phone, camera, tape recorder, toiletries, sandals and hiking shoes in hand.
